Kent State’s LGBTQ Center Hosts Annual Rainbow Run on Sept. 21

Kent State University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Student Center is hosting its annual Rainbow Run this year on Sept. 21. The run begins at 7 p.m. at Risman Plaza, located at 1075 Risman Drive in Kent. Formerly known as That Gay 5K, the Rainbow Run is an evening fun run where participants can run, walk, stroll and glow their way to the finish line.

The event started three years ago when former intern, Blake Kinsel, saw the financial challenges a lot of LGBTQ+ students face and wanted to create a sustainable fundraiser for the center’s emergency fund. He researched and planned a color run, for which 100 people registered and 50 people actively participated.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the LGBTQ Center’s emergency fund, which helps LGBTQ+ students with financial hardship. The featured sponsor CANAPI, Rainbow Level sponsor Don Joseph Toyota and numerous other local businesses have committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community and this event. To register for the 5K, go to ksu.convio.net/RainbowRun.

Cost: Registration is $20 for students and $25 for non-students.

Kent State Hosts 18th Annual Bowman Cup 5K

An awards ceremony will be held immediately after the race, and participants are invited inside the Student Recreation and Wellness Center for a variety of food and beverage items. Free parking is provided at the center.

Cost: Registration is $25 now through Sept. 19 and $30 from Sept. 20-Oct.6.
