Fatal Injury Crash on State Route 18


Bath Township, Ohio – The Akron Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal injury crash which occurred on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 3:59 PM.  The two-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 18 near mile post 1, located in Bath Township.


A 2008 Honda CBR600 Motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Route 18. The driver of the motorcycle traveled left of center and struck a 2017 Mazda MX-5 that was traveling westbound on State Route 18.


The 2008 Honda CBR600 Motorcycle was operated by Martin A. Upp, age 28 of Peninsula, Ohio. Mr. Upp was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office. Mr. Upp was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  Alcohol and/or drug usage are unknown at this time.


The 2017 Mazda MX-5 was operated by Curtis B. Henderson, age 55 of Wadsworth, Ohio. Mr. Henderson did not sustain any injuries and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  Mr. Henderson was not under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash.


Bath Township Police Department, Bath Township Fire Department, Copley Police Department, Copley Fire Department and Stan’s Towing were on scene to assist. 


The crash remains under investigation.
