The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is Investigating a fatal crash involving a wrong way driver

 

 

North Canton – The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash which occurred on July 16, 2022 at approximately 10:43 PM.  The crash occurred on the westbound side of US Route 30 near mile post 5, in Tuscarawas Township, Stark County, Ohio.

 

Douglas B. Fahrni, 62, of Apple Creek, was operating a gray 2021 Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound on US Route 30.  Franco P. Guidone, 30, of Louisville, was operating a silver 2019 Chevrolet Trax, traveling eastbound on US Route 30 in the westbound lanes. Mr. Guidone was traveling on the wrong side of the divided highway and struck Mr. Fahrni head-on. 

 

Mr. Fahrni sustained life-threatening injuries during the crash. He was transported from the crash scene to Aultman Hospital by Brewster Fire Department EMS, where he succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced deceased.

 

Mr. Guidone sustained serious injuries during the crash. He was transported from the scene to Aultman Hospital by Brewster Fire Department EMS. Mr. Guidone suffered from a broken right leg. He is currently being treated for injuries at Aultman Hospital.

 

An off-duty police officer from the Perry Township Police Department and an off-duty paramedic from the Perry Township Fire Department drove up on the crash scene. Both remained on scene to assist the driver’s and render aid.

 

The Massillon Police Department, the Brewster Fire Department, the North Lawrence Fire Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation all assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the crash scene.

 

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the traffic crash. 

 

The crash remains under investigation.
