Fatal Traffic Crash in Freedom Township, Portage County

RAVENNA, OH – The Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a single-vehicle fatal traffic crash which occurred on State Route 88 near King Road in Freedom Township, Portage County.

On June 16, 2024, at approximately 11:26 p.m., a 2006 Honda Ridgeline was traveling southwest on State Route 88. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.

The driver, Mayra Munoz Torres, 40 years of age, of Garrettsville, was transported to University Hospital in Ravenna with serious injuries and flown to University Hospital Cleveland. Ms. Munoz Torres succumbed to her injuries on June 17, 2024 at University Hospital Cleveland.

Her juvenile passenger, 6 years of age, sustained minor injuries, and was flown to University Hospital Rainbow Children’s.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ravenna Fire Department and Portage County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the crash scene.
