Summit County: Construction update

Week of October 24, 2022

 

Summit County (Thursday, October 20, 2022) – The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Summit County next week. All scheduled work is weather permitting.

 

 

 

Interstate 76/77 Akron Beltway reconstruction, Akron – reconstruction of I-76/I-77 between Princeton Ave. to V. Odom Blvd., I-77 between Cole Ave. and Waterloo Rd., and at State Route 8/I-76/I-77 Central Interchange.

NEW IMPACT – On Thursday evening, October 20, at 10 p.m. and continuing through Friday morning, October 21, at 5 a.m. I-76 westbound at SR 8 will be closed for bridge beam placement. The detour will be I-77 southbound to I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg.

NEW IMPACT – On Monday evening, October 24, at 10 p.m. and continuing through Tuesday morning, October 25, at 5 a.m. I-76 westbound at SR 8 will be closed for bridge beam placement. The detour will be I-77 southbound to I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg.

NEW IMPACT – On Wednesday evening, October 26, at 10 p.m., the following ramps will be closed through Thursday morning, October 27, at 5 a.m.:

 

Carrol St. to SR 8 southbound. The detour will be Exchange St. to Fountain St. to Perkins St. to SR 8 southbound.SR 8 southbound to I-76 eastbound. The detour will be Market St. to I-76 eastbound.

 

CONTINUING IMPACTS - The following lane restrictions and closures are currently in place:

 

The ramp from State Route 8 southbound to I-77 northbound/I-76 westbound is CLOSED through May 2023. The detour is I-77 southbound to I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg northbound.The ramp from I-77 northbound to I-76 westbound is CLOSED through May 2023. The detour is I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg northbound.The ramp from I-277/U.S. 224 westbound to I-77 northbound is CLOSED through late fall 2022. The detour is I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg.The ramp from I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound to I-77 northbound is CLOSED through late fall 2022. The detour is I-76/Kenmore Leg.The ramp from State Route 764/Wilbeth Rd. to I-77 northbound is CLOSED through late fall 2022. The detour is Coventry St. to Waterloo Rd. to Main St.All ramps to SR 59/Akron Innerbelt westbound from Rand Ave./Rhodes Ave. are closed through late fall 2022. The detour is SR 261/V. Odom Blvd.The ramp from I-76 westbound to Dart Ave. is closed through early November. The detour will be I-76 westbound to Main St. to Thornton St. to Rhodes Ave.The ramp from I-76 westbound to East Ave. is closed through late fall 2023. The detour is I-76 west/I-77 north to V. Odom Blvd. to East Ave.Russell Ave. between Princeton St. and Boulevard St. is closed through early November. The detour is Princeton St. to Thornton St. to Rhodes Ave. to Russell St.I-77 northbound between I-277/U.S. 224 and the Central Interchange is reduced to two lanes.Motorists traveling on I-76 west/I-77 north between Princeton St. and the Kenmore Leg should be aware of a contraflow pattern. I-76 west/I-77 north is split into two separate lanes. The right lane is traveling on I-76 west/I-77 north while the left lane is crossed over onto I-76 east/I-77 south. Traffic wishing to exit at Dart Ave. or I-76/Kenmore Leg needs to remain in the right lane.I-77/SR 8 northbound between Johnston St. and Perkins St. has a new traffic patten. Northbound motorists are spilt into two separate lanes. The left lane is crossed over onto the southbound direction while the right lane remains on the northbound side. Motorists wishing to exit at Carrol St. from SR 8 northbound will need to stay in the right lane.

 

 

 

Interstate 77 resurfacing, Akron

I-77 northbound and southbound between V. Odom Blvd. and Ridgewood Miller Rd. has various daily and nightly lane restrictions. Estimated completion, late October 2022.

 

 

 

Interstate 77/277/U.S.224 pavement replacement and widening, Coventry Township

CONTINUING IMPACT – The following lane restrictions and ramp closure is currently in place:

 

The ramp from I-277/U.S. 224 westbound to I-77 southbound is CLOSED through late October. The detour is I-277 westbound to Main St. to I-277 eastbound to I-77 southbound.Traffic on I-77 northbound at Swartz Rd. is shifted to the outside lanes of I-77. During this time, the far right lane will become an exit only lane for U.S. 224. Traffic wishing to stay on I-77 northbound will need to stay in the left two lanes. This traffic pattern will remain in place through late fall 2022.I-77 southbound traffic is placed in a contraflow traffic pattern. I-77 southbound traffic is split, with the left lane being crossed over onto I-77 northbound, while the right two lanes will continue on I-77 southbound. Motorists wishing to exit at Arlington Rd. need to remain in the right lanes.The ramp from I-277 eastbound to I-77 southbound is reduced to one lane.Warner Rd. under I-77 has occasional daily closures between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. A detour will be posted.

Interstate 480 resurfacing, Macedonia, Twinsburg & Hudson

I-480 between the Portage County line and the Cuyahoga line has various nightly lane restrictions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion, November 2022.

 

 

 

State Route 8 microsurfacing, Northfield & Northfield Center Township

SR 8 from just south of Ledge Rd. to just north of SR 82 has various daily lane restrictions for crack sealing and microsurfacing. Estimated completion, late November 2022.

 

 

 

State Routes 93 & 162 resurfacing, Akron

The following locations have daily lane restrictions for resurfacing:

 

SR 93 between Wilbeth Rd. and V. Odom Blvd.SR 162 between Glendale Ave. and Storer Ave.

Gilchrist Rd. resurfacing, Mogadore

Gilchrist Rd. between the Akron Corporation limit to Mogadore Rd. has various lane restrictions for resurfacing. Estimated completion, late November.
