Two Vehicle Fatal Crash SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP, ASHTABULA COUNTY – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ashtabula Post is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred on August 19 at around 3:44 pm on US 20 just east of New London Road. Unit #1 was a Green 2011 Mack Garbage Truck, driven by Andrew Clark, age 47, of Andover, Ohio. Unit #2 was a Black 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driver’s name being withheld at this time. Unit #1 was traveling southwest on US 20 and stopped in the roadway to collect trash from a receptacle. The driver exited the vehicle and removed the trash while standing in the driveway to a residence. Unit #2 approached Unit #1 also traveling southwest. Unit #2 failed to stop and swerved to the right off the roadway. Unit #2 struck Unit #1 and the driver which was standing in the driveway. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle after impact. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The driver of Unit #2 was pronounced deceased at the hospital. It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Saybrook Township Fire and EMS, Geneva City Fire, Ashtabula City Fire, and numerous residents and passing motorists assisted on scene.
